Long Radius (LR) Elbows
Long Radius (LR) elbows have a centre-to-end distance equal to 1.5 times the nominal pipe size (R = 1.5D), providing a gradual change in direction that minimises pressure drop and flow turbulence. They are the most commonly used elbow type in process piping and are the default specification unless otherwise stated.
Short Radius (SR) Elbows
Short Radius (SR) elbows have a centre-to-end distance equal to the nominal pipe size (R = 1D), used where space is limited and piping must make a tighter directional change. While they create a higher pressure drop than LR elbows, they are essential in compact piping layouts and low-pressure applications.
45° Elbows
45° elbows provide a moderate directional change in piping systems, used where a 90° turn is not required. They are commonly paired in sequence to achieve custom angles or to navigate around obstructions.
90° Elbows
90° elbows are the most widely used pipe fittings, enabling a perpendicular change of direction in piping systems. Available in both Long Radius (1.5D) and Short Radius (1D) configurations, they are essential components in virtually every piping system.
180° Returns (U-Bends)
180° returns, also known as U-bends, reverse the flow direction by 180 degrees in a single fitting. They are commonly used in heat exchanger headers, furnace coils, and piping systems where flow must be redirected back in the opposite direction.
Piping Bends (3D–25D)
Piping bends are large-radius directional fittings with bend radii from 3D to 25D, manufactured by hot induction bending of straight pipes. They provide the smoothest flow transition and lowest pressure drop of any directional fitting, making them ideal for long-radius pipeline routing.
Miter Bends
Miter bends are fabricated fittings made by cutting and welding straight pipe segments at specific angles to create the desired bend. They are used in large-diameter, low-pressure applications where standard elbows are not economically feasible.
